He had last year also broken the legendary Jason Dunford's 50m record in a Dubai meet
Kenya’s swimming sensation Haniel Kudwoli over the weekend proved his ability once again as he smashed two records in his signature breaststroke events at the Kenya National Swimming Championship held at Bandari Maritime College.
The Otters Swimming Club swimmer first surpassed his previous record of 29.45 seconds in the 50m breaststroke, timing a new national record time of 29.06.
Kudwoli’s previous record in the event came in November 2023, when he broke the legendary Jason Dunford’s record of 29.72 set in 2010 in a second-place finish at the 26th Speedo Invitational Short Course Meet in Dubai.
The 18-year-old’s second moment of glory came in the 100m breaststroke, where he shattered Micah Fernandez’s national best to clock an impressive 1:03.44, etching his name in the annals of Kenyan swimming history.
Fernandez’s time - 1:04.51 - stood since the World Short Course Swimming Championships in 2014.
Drawing over 40 teams, the Kenya National Swimming Championship served as part of selection meets for the 9th Africa Aquatics Zone 3 Swimming Championship scheduled for next month in Bujumbura, Burundi.
